Wings & Things 2007 - Important Notice
|
After many years of holding the annual "Woodchurch Wings & Things" charity event,
we have taken the difficult decision not to go ahead with the show this year. It
is with sadess and regret that we have taken this decision.
There are many contibutory factors, not least is the ever increasing burden of bureaucracy
and the cost now surrounding health and safety and flying; also the escalating fuel
and insurance costs.
We have been extremely fortunate with the continued support given to Wings &
Things over the years. Out thanks to all those that have been involved.

Woodchurch
Wings & Things has now been running
for some 18 years. It is one of the highlights of the events
calendar in the Ashford
Borough, typically attracting some 6,000 people each year
Its
main attraction is the air display - a full 3-hour display of
classic, warbird
and aerobatic aircraft -
with some of the top display pilots in the country participating.
These pilots give their services for free, which enables the event
to raise money for local charities.
Wings & Things also attracts about 400 classic, vintage and historic vehicles — ranging
from steam rollers to vintage Bentleys, from wartime
Jeeps through Norton motorbikes to Kit Cars.

Visitors can wander around the lines of vehicles and talk with
the owners; they can also get close to the aircraft and chat with
the pilots For the children and those with less interest in cars and planes,
there is an entertainments field with traditional fairground rides,
a range of different stalls offering interesting wares, and a wide
variety of refreshments.
The
whole show has a “garden party” feel
to it, and tries to present these high-tech machines of the past
in an intimate and accessible fashion. Visitors come by
road from all over the country, and by air from France,
Holland and Germany.
The show opens
to the public at 10.00 am and finishes at about 5.30 pm. Entry
fees are £10.00 for
adults and £5.00 for school-age children and senior citizens.
The route will be signposted from the A28 and the B2067.
Thanks
to our sponsors and volunteers, including Corralls (steam coal),
St
John Ambulance (first aid), Mike
Wood (Air Display Director), Stratton Richey (commentary)
and of course, our hosts Mr and Mrs Rob Davies.
Proceeds
will again be divided between Woodchurch Museum
Trust and 305 (Ashford) Squadron, ATC, both registered charities.
